The Lewis O. Turner Society
The
Foundation is proud to announce the establishment of the Lewis O.
Turner Society to recognize significant gifts to the endowment,
as well as bequests and other planned gifts to the GCC Foundation.
Lew Turner was president of Greenfield Community College from 1964 to 1978, during which time he oversaw the expansion of the campus to its current location in the Greenfield meadows, and was vital in the development of the Foundation itself.
The Grace Mayers Society
Only one woman earned the title "the mother of Greenfield Community College."
Grace Mayers was instrumental in the establishment of GCC, rallying community
leaders and state officials in the late 1950s to designate Greenfield as
a state college site. In November 1961, when the Commonwealth announced
plans to locate a new regional community college in the heart of Franklin
County, Ms. Mayers received a card saying, "Congratulations on your New
Baby!" In subsequent years Ms. Mayers served on the College Advisory Board,
became a charter member of the GCC Foundation, accepted the the Foundation's
Distinguished Service Award, and continued to take classes at GCC when
she was old enough to be a great grandmother to many of her classmates.
Membership in the Grace Mayers Society is open to those who sustain her
vision by making a gift of one thousand dollars or more to the Foundation's
Annual Fund Campaign. Your generous gift will be recognized by a plaque
engraved with your name at the College, a listing in the GCC Foundation's
Annual Report, and acknowledgement at an annual event to thank significant
supporters of the GCC Foundation.
